Heart > Law. How Jesus changed the world bottom up.

To change society from top down, is always a temptation.

Where decisions, rules, laws are made at the top and imposed downwards. It’s the easier way to make “change”… or at least it looks like change.

The Jewish people expected their Messiah to come as a king. Someone who would change the laws. To take the high position to change things from the top down. This is why they could not accept Jesus, a carpenter’s son from Nazareth – “a nobody” – as their Messiah who had no political authority over the rulers of the land. Who was just like one of them.

Jesus did not come as a king to change the laws of the land, but to win the hearts of the people. He changed society the slow, hard way by changing the hearts of men & women. Rebuilding a life of a person instead of imposing from the top down.

God gave the Israelites a perfect law and still the country went wild without a vision. It is ultimately only the change of heart that can change a society.
